The top eight are decided after completing the round one tonight at Hong Kong Football Club. Annie Au and Leo Au safely pulled through to the quarter finals.

Annie Au, the defending champion came through a huge pressure today against her teammate Liu Tsz Ling before reaching the quarters. The fearless Tsz Ling gave out her best to level the match from two games down at 10-12 and 16-18, however the experienced Annie managed to dominate in the fifth to take the victory at 12-10, 18-16, 7-11, 10-12 and 11-8. Annie will meet Jenny Duncalf at the quarter finals tomorrow. 

Along with Annie, another home hopes Leo Au sailed through to the quarter-finals by beating Tayyab Aslam from Pakistan at the close four games at 11-7, 11-6, 5-11, 11-9. He will face Mohamed Reda from Egypt for the semi-final position. On the other hand, the top seed of men’s draw, Max Lee failed to defend his title after being outplayed by Ivan Yuen from Malaysia in the tough five games
