The 5th Hong Kong Football Club International 25 kicked off yesterday. After the completion of the qualifying round today, two home favourites safely passed through to the main draw which will be held tomorrow.
Coming up as the first player on courts, the world No. 29 Liu Tsz Ling overcame Megan Craig from New Zealand at a straight 11-5, 11-6 and 11-9 to meet teammate Annie Au in the main draw’s round one whereas Vanessa Chu beat her compatriot Lee Ka Yi in a thrilling see-saw battle to become the last qualifier meeting Delia Arnold in the women’s main draw.
For the men’s event, Lau Tsz Kwan who produced a great upset against the Malaysian Addeen Idrakie last night with the tough five games, was stopped by the second seed Mazen Gamal from Egypt losing at 8-11, 4-11 and 9-11.
The main draw will be commenced tomorrow at 3pm at Hong Kong Football Club. The defending champion Max Lee and Annie Au as the first and second seed in the men’s and women’s draw will participate in the event along with Joey Chan, Leo Au, Yip Tsz Fung.
