The World No.19, Chan Ho Ling Joey produced the most stunning upset last night at the women's semi-finals of World Games in Wroclaw, Poland when she defeated the Malaysian former No.1 Nicol David in five games.
Facing the current World No.6 and three-time World Games gold medalist, the 3/4 seed Joey forced a tie-break at 12-10 to level up the match in the second, though David came back strongly in the third, Joey got fearless and stayed very calm with her game plan to push the match into decider before claiming the historic victory at 7-11, 12-10, 5-11, 11-4, 11-5 to book the place in the final for the first time.
“It is like a dream comes true to me, Nicol is always our role model in the industry and I am very glad I can stay very focus than ever and execute my tactics and game so I am just very happy to beat her eventually.” Joey commented after the win.
Joey Chan will meet the first seed Camille Serme of France in the women’s final at 6:30pm (local time) tonight (28 July).
