The second day of pool matches of Bright Smart Securities 18th Asian Junior Squash Championships 2017 continues in action. Both Hong Kong Boy’s and Girl’s teams carried on their winning streaks to keep their leading position at the pool.
Hong Kong boys produced a straight win on the first match against Sri Lanka and came through a tough encounter with Jordan. Chan Wui Ki recorded the first win, however Jordan levelling up the match as beating Lai Cheuk Nam in four games. In the deciding match, Chan Chi Ho fought hard to survive from the close four sets. The Hong Kong Boys now meet Malaysia to decide the order of the pool in the last day of pool matches tomorrow.
The biggest upset today came between Malaysia and Jordan in the boy’s team event as Jordan beat the seed two at 2-1 to move up to the second place in Pool B.
In Pool A, first seed India surpassed Pakistan after scoring a 3-0 win to guarantee their dominance in Pool A. They will face Macau for the place at top four tomorrow.
On the other hand, no surprise was in store for the girls team event, the Hong Kong girls team including Liu Hiu Lam, Cheng Nga Ching and Chan Sin Yuk maintained their sharp form by defeating India in the anticipated three nil victory. They will face Japan tomorrow to determine who would earn a more advantageous place in the knock out stages.
Meanwhile, top seed Malaysia finished top in the pool A by making the fourth consecutive 3-0 victory over Korea and Singapore today, they will meet either Hong Kong or Japan in the semi-finals.
The final day of pool matches will start to 10am at Hong Kong Squash Centre tomorrow for free admission, Hong Kong Girl’s Team will meet Japan at 10am whereas the Boy’s Team will face Malaysia at 12:30pm.
