Title sponsored by Cathay Pacific and Sun Hung Kai Financial and presented by Hong Kong Squash the “Hong Kong Squash Open 2017” as one of the highly anticipated sporting extravaganzas in the world will be performed at Hong Kong Football Club, Hong Kong Squash Centre and Hong Kong Park Sports Centre from 12 to 19 November 2017.
We are delighted that the “Cathay Pacific Sun Hung Kai Financial Hong Kong Squash Open 2017” has been recognized as an “M” Mark event that helps enhance the image of Hong Kong as Asia’s sports event capital. The “M” Mark awarded by the Major Sports Events Committee, symbolizing intense, spectacular and signature event in the territory sports calendar. Being one of the World Series Events, the top 30 players will return to this star- studded tournament for a tempting winning purse of HK$2.44 million and demonstrate the best squash to delight the worldwide fans.
The current world’s No 1 Gregory Gaultier will top the men’s draw for aiming to his first ever success in Hong Kong whereas the seed No.2 world champion Karim Abdel Gawad will join in the battle for the men’s title. Max Lee, the Hong Kong men’s leading player who became the first male home-grown player to reach the semi-final last year, will take on seed no.3 Mohamed ElShorbagy in the first round. His fellow and wild card holder Leo Au, will meet the three time and defending champion Ramy Ashour in the opening round.
For the women’s event, the world champion and world No.1 Nour El Sherbini dominates the draw whereas Nicol David, the Malaysian legend holding the tenth successive title will be the fifth seed this year to clash with Annie Au, the local top women’s player in second round if the results go according the seeding. The wildcard, Liu Tsz Ling will meet the defending champion Nouran Gohar in the round one of the top half draw. Another home hope, Joey Chan will face Emily Whitlock of England in the bottom half of the draw.

The qualifying rounds will be staged at Hong Kong Football Club whereas the opening of main draw commence at Hong Kong Squash Centre. The quarters will be moved to the portable glass court erected at Hong Kong Park Sports Centre following with the semi-finals and finals.
